Stops sediment and silt from leaving your jobsite.

This Sediment Control device helps to stop silt and sediment from leaving your jobsite and keeps you in compliance of environmental laws. These compost filter socks stops pollutants in two ways:

  • Deposition—Sediment settles out as water ponds behind the barrier
  • Filtration—Sediment is trapped as water passes through the barrier

Sediment Control BMP:

More than Just Mesh!

The mesh is different - Unlike silt fence or inferior socks, ours lets water though while keeping silt and clay inside the sock. Independent test data prove its performance.

Special filter media—Two-thirds of the silt stopping capacity is in the sock. The filter media is certified to meet the necessary flow-through rates specified by both the EPA and most state regulators.

ADVANTAGES
  • No major excavation, land disturbance, or pond construction
  • Easily customized to fit most types of watersheds/drainage areas
  • No trenching, no soil disturbance
  • Easy removal and disposal
  • Add targeted pollutant removal

How to Decide Between Using a Silt Fence vs Compost Filter Sock.

  1. Does your Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) require you to filter out sediment for contamination such as heavy metals or petroleum hydrocarbons?
  2. Are you able to dig to create trenches or drive stakes into the ground?
  3. What is the climate, topography, soil and vegetative cover like?
  4. How easy is it to relocate erosion control devices?

Applications

The United States Department of Agriculture found that the compost filter sock could be used in a variety of stormwater management applications. Just some of the recommended applications are:

  • Perimeter sediment control
  • As a check dam to reduce soil erosion in swales, ditches, channels, and gullies
  • Storm drain and curb storm inlet protection
  • Reduction of fecal coliform, E. coli., nitrogen, phosphorus, heavy metals, and petroleum hydrocarbons from stormwater
  • Reduction of suspended solids and turbidity in effluents
  • Slope interruption practice used to reduce sheet flow velocities to prevent erosion
  • On paved, compacted, or tree-rooted areas where trenching is not possible
  • Use in low impact development (LID) green infrastructure

Advantages

Although the Filter Soxx is more expensive option to use to control water runoff, you have several advantages over the silt fence.

  • No trenching required so no plant disturbance, can be applied on compacted and paved surfaces
  • Made from bio-based, recycled material
  • Composed of plant material indigenous to the Hawaii bioregion
  • They can be spread and incorporated into existing landscape without removal
  • Sediment, nutrients, harmful bacteria, heavy metals and petroleum hydrocarbons are reduced in stormwater runoff.

The US Dept of Agriculture also stated that compost quality and design are critical to the effectiveness of compost filter socks. Filtrexx has tested their FiltrexxSiltSoxx extensively to meet or exceed the standards set by the EPA, AASHTO, USACE, and the NRCS. We have studies showing that the FiltrexxSiltSoxx performs better than straw wattle and off-spec compost filter sock. Can your supplier providethe documentation that they meet the requirements set forth by government agencies?

FILTREXX SOXX TECHNOLOGY FORMULA

Despite the numerous applications, product designs and performance requirements in diverse industries, our Soxx technology can be easily understood by the addition of these three elements; we call it the Filtrexx Soxx Technology Formula:

Filtrexx Mesh + Filtrexx Media + Sorbents or Vegetation

SORBENTS

Filtrexx can incorporate natural additives to help remove pollutants such as bacteria, heavy metals, hydrocarbons and nutrients.

OR VEGETATION

For stormwater management, stabilization, agriculture and gardening applications, Filtrexx can incorporate vegetation.
